The band recently faced a new challenge that leads them increasingly to producing : they composed the soundtrack of the BMX-powered post-apocalyptic splatterific love story Turbo Kid, written and directed by the trio RKSS, which premiere occured at Sundance film festival 2015.Magic Sword is an ageless tale of good and evil, told through an ever-expanding graphic novel story and accompanying synth-heavy soundtrack albums. Its musical imprint is a powerful dancemachine, mix of pop melodies and melancholic sounds inspired by 80’s movie soundtrack composers such as Vangelis, John Carpenter, Tangerine Dream, Shuki Levy and Goblin.Īfter having demonstrated all their know-how on stage and doing remixes for artists such as Coeur de Pirate, Delphic, We Have Band or Electric Youth, The first of these EPs, called ‘Legend’, was released on April 29th.Īnalog synths are the unstoppable weapons of the french canadian electronic band from Montreal, Le Matos. Each EP will feature a comic that tells another chapter of The Keeper’s eternal battle. In 2016, Magic Sword partnered with Size Records for the project’s follow up to Volune One – a series of episodic EPs. Following a series of street-level guerrilla concerts in Portland as well as four tracks getting placed in GoPro’s “Streets of Japan” documentary, Magic Sword entered 2015 to a flurry of international interest surrounding the act’s involvement with the hotly anticipated video game Hotline Miami 2 and the re-release of Volume One via Tender Loving Empire. Over the next year-and-a-half, Magic Sword brought capacity crowds to downtown Boise’s biggest clubs and shared bills with the likes of Odesza and Slow Magic. Magic Sword made its live debut to a packed venue at the 2013 Treefort Music Fest. Whatever his influences, Carpenter Brut does not lack the talent to create in-your-face vintage killer tracks. As one of the leaders of the retro new wave scene despite himself, Carpenter Brut can be found on the successful video games Hotline Miami 2 : Wrong Number and The Crew (Ubisoft). Carpenter Brut pays tribute to the post-hippie/pre-AIDS culture that then set the basis of electro and metal to give us a unique, violent and crazy 80s revival sound. This would explain his penchant for the occult, his passion for kitsch sounds and his adoration for all kinds of enjoyment. Listening to his home-made EPs, however, one would rather bet on a metalhead background, a crush for Dario Argento and a force-fed religious education. The mysterious and discreet man behind the pentagon – or the Brutagram as his fans would call it – evokes an encounter between Justice beats and the universe of John Carpenter.
